Dewey’s Flatiron: Whether celebrating a promotion or just praising the creation of beer, Dewey’s Flatiron fits the bill. Thanks to a coveted chunk of real estate one block away from the Flatiron building, this otherwise typical sports bar is packed like a sardine can during rush hour. Nine-to-fivers flock to de-stress with the usual attractions: pool table, check; flat-screen TVs, check; staggering array of draught beers, check, check (15 in total). But the cleanliness and aesthetic touches trump average sports haunts; namesake George Dewey was actually an admiral and decorative architecture and artwork reflect his victories in the Spanish American War. These days, the only battles are the Sundays devoted to the NFL, where for $30 fans consume all the wings and beer they can handle for up to an eight-hour stretch. On warmer days the front windows are swung open so commuters passing by can check out the score, and the clientele too. |
