Croton Reservoir Tavern: Not just another steakhouse in Midtown, here you can you get unbuttoned for happy hour sans frat boys. Croton Reservoir Tavern, an ode to the reservoir that once covered the space where New York Public Library and Bryant Park now sit, looks like any one of NYC’s nicer Old New York bars. There are leather banquettes and chairs, velvet curtains, wooden tables, exposed brick walls, wrought iron railings, and of course, a Croton Reservoir mural. Despite the business-lunch decor, this place knows how to get down—a DJ spins every Friday (mostly '80s) in the downstairs lounge, and drink specials are on tap from 5 to 9pm Tuesday through Friday ($4 domestic draft beers, $5 flavored martinis and margaritas). Happy hour also comes with food specials—think $8 fried calamari. Sure it's not a scene from the Meatpacking District, but hey, even suits need to let loose once in a while. |
