Craft: If your mom’s in town—or you’re dating someone older by a generation or two—Craft is the place to go. The beautifully appointed interior centers around hanging filament light bulbs that give the mostly wood finishes a warm glow. At left a wall is covered in tan vinyl squares, and on the right, behind the modest bar, are elegant glass-doored wine racks and refrigerators. Beyond that a separate room boasts “private dining,” but oddly you can peek in from the street. At the bar you can choose from hundreds of wines and ingest seafood selections in lieu of waiting for a table—between the food and owner Tom Colicchio’s star turn on “Top Chef,” the waits can be painful. If you’re hitting the town, don’t make Craft your final destination; instead tote a guest and start the evening with class. At least your unblurred memories the next morning will remind you how suave you are. |
