Cornichon: Who says you have to burn your tastebuds with cheap alcohol during happy hour? This casually elegant wine bar amongst a strip of Williamsburg dives sticks out as a symbol of gentrification, but a $3 per glass happy hour (5 to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday) shows it knows who its neighbors are. Named after the little pickle, Cornichon’s laid back atmosphere and affordable French wines by the glass ($5 to $10) or by the bottle ($22 to $45) fill a void in the neighborhood. Other drink options include champagne cocktails like the bubbly mojito (champagne, mint, lime, and sugar). Light dinner (charcuterie and cheese plates, salads, paninis) and weekend brunch are served. The exposed brick interior and backyard patio (complete with a new pétanque court) telegraph romance and relaxation, making this a great date spot. Just be careful what you say about little pickles—they’re sensitive about that sort of thing. |
