Corio: There’s a SoHo formula that works and this duplex Mediterranean restaurant has it down: small quarters, romantic candlelight, exposed brick walls, and stylish Europeans sipping red wine and looking good doing it. Innocuous jazzy house stuff plays in the background, couples dine on spicy surf and turf tapas, and…that girl’s wearing nothing but her underwear! Yes, as some places have belly dancers or roaming violinists, Corio’s burlesque dancers strut and strip every hour or so Thursday-Saturday (karaoke hits Tuesdays). It may sound odd to say this all plays out rather tastefully, but it does. Personal pizzas are a popular starter here and the sugarless chocolate cake keeps everyone thin and your wallet’s going to lose a bit of weight also – light-drinking couples should plan on hitting the $80 mark. |
