Coco66: A newcomer to Greenpoint's rapidly growing decent-bar scene, Coco66 keeps in the tradition of incorporating the neighborhood's industrial past with flourishes that are modern but never flashy. The entrance is an old loading dock, and doubles as a smallish patio (with a depressing view, but hey, a patio's a patio). Inside, the bar is white-walled and no-nonsense, but not drab. Orderly tables fashioned out of old materials from the ceiling rest on the proudly concrete floor. There is the usual selection of tap beers, and the mandatory chi-chi drink selection. A Chinese porcelain cat and a fake fireplace exist as incongruous kitsch, but manage to blend in, while in a walled section in back, there is what might be Brooklyn's least dangerously situated dartboard. Even the neon sign, simply reading "Bar," is understated. We''d say "you'll be cuckoo for Coco66!" but this place just isn't that wacky. |
