Ciao Bella:
Ciao Bella sounds like an old-world Italian restaurant, but it’s in Williamsburg where hipness is mandatory. The black brick exterior surrounds paned windows with drawn curtains. One wouldn’t come here to hang out at the decent sized bar (where a pint of beer will cost you $4), but lingering after dinner can be fun on weekends. High ceilings and beige walls display ‘burg worthy paintings and artwork, and there are interesting sculptures as well. The perplexing sign by the bathrooms that reads “Dignity” is certainly more worthy of rumination than “employees must wash hands.” Ciao Bella’s perpetually overwhelmed management is good about taking reservations, but they don’t seem to understand the idea of honoring them. This is a great special events place when these guys have their act together.
