Chocolat Michel Cluizel NYC: CLOSED: Need consoling after a harsh breakup with your boyfriend? Looking for the type of chick who does? You'll find a comforting haven of über-fine chocolates and liquors deep in ABC Carpet: Chocolat Michel Cluizel. Also accessible via Lucy Latin Kitchen (18th St.) and Pipa (19th St.), Chocolat was created as the first US shop for the Paris-based chocolatier, but since the Kirsh-infused Morello Cherry required a liquor license, rather than nix it, the cocoa snobs created a full-fledged chocolate bar, complete with titillating $10 “choctails.” Pairing squares of chocolate with fine spirits, a guided flight appeals to the connoisseur (50 minutes, 10 chocolates, and eight spirits will run you $100), but like any good tasting it can be thoroughly enjoyed by the amateur, too (try a $6 shot and $3 four-piece tasting). If you don't leave appreciating the subtleties of the cocoa bean, you'll discover the buzz is undiscriminating. |
