Chibi's Bar: Long before every would-be devil wearing Prada was toting one, the French bulldog has been idolatrized to the point of blasphemy at this outpost of Kitchen Club owner Marja Samsom. Chibi the bulldog is no accessory, but rather the star at this ever-popular sake bar, and in case you could forget it, she stares imperiously down from her larger-than-life portrait above the bar. Like le petite pup herself, waddling between tables, the space is small but stylish. Besides a dependable menu of Japanese/French fusion appetizers, a list of 24 sakes and rice wine cocktails like the Chibitini make it the perfect place for a low-key drink and bite to eat. Come on Sundays, when there’s live jazz, and, if Chibi’s in the giving mood, you might even get a free shot…and a lick. |
