Ceol: You can’t miss the bright green exterior of Ceol (“kee-ole”), or the impressively long centerpiece of a bar inside: It is, after all, a pretty authentic Irish pub. Travel the length of its richly colored, narrow interior, beyond the dartboards near the door, and you’ll find private tables for diners; a few barrels and cushioned benches up front also act as tables. Still, it’s all about the bar here. Behind it, you’ll find Irish bartenders, beers, flags, snacks, and even some signs in Gaelic; at it, a crowd that generally skews a bit older than most other Smith Street haunts—but that’s not to say it is tamer. Whether it’s karaoke, $5 martini specials, live Irish music, or British-’80s-DJ night, people here always seem to be having fun. Who wouldn’t drink to that? |
