Center Cut @ The Empire Hotel: Red meat goes green at Jeffrey Chodorow's new classic steakhouse serving eco-conscious fare. With a menu featuring hormone-free beef, free-range fowl, sustainable seafood, and locally-sourced sides, Center Cut puts the blood in "bleeding heart liberal." On the second floor of the hotel, the sleek beige and espresso-brown restaurant with mahogany paneling offers pricey plates, although many are big enough to share, like the "Flintstone" beef ribs ($32) or the 24-oz. Brandt Beef New York strip ($69). For the non-recession-proof, there's a $39, two-course option from 5pm-7pm and after 10pm, which should appeal to Lincoln Center-goers. Classic and signature cocktails, sustainable wines, and craft beers round out the liquid offerings. And best of all, you don't have to worry about one of those pesky swords falling from the ceiling. |
