Catch-22: The catch here is that you’ll have to pass a velvet rope to enter what is essentially a grandpa den. The space formerly occupied by Tiki Bar and Prey has been revamped into a ‘40s-era, WWII-inspired restaurant/lounge/nightspot complete with army helmets and a staff dressed in retro garb. The décor has a clubhouse feel with dark walls, animal skin banquettes, opulent flower arrangements, and, oddly enough, a foosball table. Fittingly, the joint’s menu features small eats originating from the various countries involved in the war—think basil, mozzarella, and tomato ($10) for Italy. Cocktails go for a cool $14 and feature mostly classics like mint juleps and bellinis. Come 9pm though, the DJ comes out, spinning a mix of ‘80s and house, a bouncer guards the door, promoters take their seats, and the $250 bottles of Stoli hit the tables—not very forgiving for an ally, but how typically NYC. |
