Capitale: When your party is just too important to be trusted to a club where a general manager may insist on “helping” with various aspects of your event, this grand rental space is where you go. Built as the Bowery Savings Bank in 1893, this masculine structure has seen nearly countless tweaks and transformations over the past 111 years, but its limestone exterior, tall Corinthian columns, and Frederick MacMonnies’ sculptures remain. Aside from a 10,000-square-foot grand ballroom that holds up to 1,500 people under a heavenly Tiffany glass skylight, Capitale boasts four private rooms that are also available for more “modest” private functions. From the fashion world’s A-list to hip-hop’s golden rap sheet, everybody has partied here. |
