Campo: Campo means "a gathering place" in Italian, and this place lives up to its name: at any given moment it's filled with yuppie-ish couples and groups of friends. What keeps them coming back are the hearty grilled pizzas and decently-priced signature cocktails, many of which are named after New York institutions; the "Barnard," for example—a mix of muddled berries, lemon, simple syrup, and vodka—is $9 and two-for-one during happy hour. And speaking of happy hour, Campo offers two each day from 3pm to 7pm and again from 11pm to 2am. In terms of ambience, the vintage signs, mellow hip-hop music, and sporadically placed candles provide a mellow atmosphere for drinking and relaxing. The bar seats about 15 people, some watching basketball on the bar's flatscreen, some chatting with friends, and all (at some point or another) checking in on the cooking drama in the open kitchen. |
