Caliente Cab Company: Sure, it’s not Puerto Escondido, but the last time we checked, there were plenty of great places to get a margarita and relax in this city—so why are all of these people packing Caliente Cab Co. on weekends? New Yorkers in-the-know know that this Tex-Mex eatery/bar is just Chevy’s after the Queer Eye boys gave it a makeover. And beneath the tacky décor, the Caliente restaurant chain is about as hot as a food court. Apparently, the super-sized Texas/Vegas/Bourbon Street cocktails served in souvenir cups are a real draw for a crowd that probably spends all of their vacation days in Texas/Vegas/Bourbon Street. Walk a block in any direction and you’re sure to find more potent drinks, authentic food, and clientele who wouldn’t be caught dead speaking incorrect Spanglish. |
