Calexico Restaurante: Unlike the band of the same name, Park Slope’s Calexico is not for the faint of heart. A visit to this gastric thrill-ride will require you to stock up on Tums and check your germophobia at the rickety door, and once inside, you’ll be greeted with standard Mexican dishes that cannot possibly be described as heart-smart. However, it will only take one oozing, cheese-filled chomp of bean burrito to prove your courage has been rewarded. It’s a good deal, too: tacos start as low as $2, and only Joey Chestnut could spend more than $20 at the place. The same goes for the beers, with a selection featuring expected—and affordable—favorites like Bohemia and Carta Blanca to pour down your cerveza-hole. As for the vibe, well, there really isn’t one to speak of (a place this cheap probably can’t afford vibe). So, a destination it’s not, but Calexico hits the spot if you’re in the neighborhood.
