Cain Luxe
The folks behind Cain Luxe, formerly Cain, know a thing or two about running hotspots. They are, after all, the ones behind GoldBar and Surf Lodge, but it’s going to take more than a change in décor and the addition of the word “luxe” to turn Cain back into the hotspot it once was. Big on gimmicks, the joint was completely gutted a move which in the span of a few short weeks transformed its interior from the trendsetting African-themed chic-ness it once pioneered into a “Paris meets Africa” joint that’s slightly smaller—fitting given that the crowd outside vying to get in has thinned as well. It comes complete with elephant tusk columns, purple sheen mohair couches, and a zebra print-wrapped DJ booth. If you're at a loss for how to drop hundreds on bottle service, Cain Luxe employs the city’s first nightlife "champagne sommelier," whose sole job is to ensure the perfect pairing of champagne and the occasion (seriously?!). Entertainment comes to you via the sexy dance troupe “Raising Cain." (Didn’t Mansion already play this trick?) Luckily, despite it all, you can always count on the music  to keep the NJ crowd dancing. Open Wed.-Sat. 11pm-4am.

not so hot

i went there for the music. a few amazing promoters were booking dance music on thursday. but after all the fanfare that they are putting in a great function one system and getting the best talent the same crappy mash ups were being played AND i found out they canceled the dj! cain is simply the same crap with a new red paint job and even more tables. this time all the tables are empty and their isn't any room to dance.

Nothing like the review

Saturday night at midnight, every club in the chelsea area was packed and had lines down the block, except this one.

Cain had about 25 people in it total, looked like they had somebody's birthday, and basically it was dead.

More importantly, unlike the review suggested, there were no bongo players and other than the decor (and the disgusting urine and vomit stenched bathrooms... seriously, if it's busy ok.. but when it's dead this just means they didn't clean the bathrooms from the previous night.. yuck) there was nothing "african" about this place besides the few african american bouncers.

The DJ was playing an odd mix of 70's disco (jackson 5, YMCA).

The one upside to Cain was that there was an 80/20 women to men ratio. The girls were all partying together and most of them were in their 30's and 40's.

Sorry Cain, but your club has either gone way downhill since this review, or the reviewer went on a special night.
