Cafe Pierre: Long and narrow and sadly with no views of Central Park, Café Pierre looks like your grandmother’s living room—if your grandmother has a Fifth Avenue apartment with a pianist. The small bar area, with friendly bartenders and several formal sitting areas as well as barstools, serves food such as a seafood plateau and mini burgers from 6pm-11pm; entertainment starts at 8:00 nightly. Past the piano is the grander still restaurant, with white tablecloths and enormous floral arrangements. The Rotunda—one of the more beautiful small public spaces in the city, with sky blue hand-painted trompe l’oeil murals and ceiling—is another good choice for a cocktail, tea, or mature snack of caviar. These guys actually have a Grasshopper on the cocktail menu. Wouldn’t that make Grandma dance a jig? |
