Bushwick Country Club: It’s easier to picture Rodney Dangerfield than Ted Knight hanging out in this “country club,” where a six-hole miniature golf course is out back for anyone needing a putt-putt fix (wisecracking caddie not included). Opened in the summer of 2005, this relaxed bar has proved a welcome addition to a neighborhood OD’ing on hipster pretension. Cozy leather booths and wooden tables—all of which seem ripped out of your parents’ den—sit against a brick wall on the left of this long room, while the red-walled right-hand side is packed with a lengthy bar tended by easily the friendliest barkeeps in the ’hood, Elvis memorabilia, a jukebox (expect to hear Johnny Cash one minute, and The Killers the next), a videogame, and a photo booth. A small selection of bottles and drafts are served ($3 PBR, $5 Amstel Light and “Winter Ale”), as are $7-$9 cocktails like the McGuytai and the dubiously named Windex and the $5 White Trash Special (a can of PBR plus a shot of Tennessee whiskey). |
