Bowery Ballroom: Three full bars operate at this art-deco music venue. Downstairs, couches line stone walls under gilt-framed mirrors, as lamps shaped like maces hover delicately over the subterranean-level U-shaped bar. The Bowery isn’t a place you’d just drop into for a drink; it’s THE music venue for up-and-coming indie rock bands (Our Lady Peace, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse). The changing lineup provides a new crowd every night, but there’s never a shortage of the stock-in-trade patron—youngish hipster boys and girls in all their horn-rimmed, Converse-wearing glory. The upstairs bar in the main space serves beer and wine, and as you ascend even further into rock ’n’ roll heaven, you’ll find a third bar, a VIP section, and private booths in the rear flanking the stained-glass window overlooking Bowery. |
