Boss Tweed's:
The real Boss Tweed is actually buried in Brooklyn’s Greenwood Cemetery, but here on the Lower East Side, Tweed’s name is invoked as a tongue-in-cheek nod to overindulgence. News clippings and some of the political cartoons that led to Tweed’s fall from grace adorn the walls, as does a 36-star American flag (which was flown just before Tweed became a New York State senator). Gruff neighborhood types sit alongside bleary-eyed undergrads (a Jägermeister tap machine testifies to their presence). All of the marks of a solid neighborhood bar are present: friendly service, darts, a pool table, a jukebox,
karaoke, free wings (Fridays, 5pm-7pm) and—most importantly—an above-average selection of beer. Smokers will find a small backyard for their nicotine pursuits.
