Boom:
Boom in a nutshell: An Italian-influenced menu without the goombas and gold chains; romantic atmosphere without a violin quartet coming to each table; shabby-chic ambiance that is charming yet understated. This welcoming spot takes the skepticism out of palm readings with tarot-card images of the “Hanged Man” and the “Star” (which the handsome European bartender will tell you symbolize risky ventures and questionable hope) hung over the bar, where you can order from the wide-ranging but unintimidating wine list. Antique chandeliers dangle from the ceilings, faintly illuminating Boom’s aging walls, which have faded gracefully over their past decade in SoHo. With an atmosphere so pleasant and polished, visiting Boom is anything but a risky venture.
