Bonita:
When the glass doors are open, each pane adds a letter to the name Bonita. It’s a nice effect—as is the traditional Mexican menu served up in the retro setting. Formerly a Latino lunch counter, multicolored tiles are mounted on the wall and diner-like seating faces an open kitchen. Neighborhooders lap up pitchers of fruity white wine sangria and margaritas, while mounds of tomatoes and corn cut from the cob accompany most entrees like overstuffed chicken or pork enchiladas and sizzling carne asada. Fresh guacamole is accompanied by chips fried to order, another nice touch. This place is also a solid bet for brunch, as the crowds will indicate, and in the summer, a small outdoor cafe sets up shop.
