Boat: From afar, Boat looks like a sketchy dive, with its dark, red-painted exterior, lack of sign-age, and telltale pay phone. But it’s nicer than that, and has been a low-key neighbor-hood favorite for years now. Some people come for the impressive indie rock jukebox—it seems to have a bit of a reputation—and then stick around for the inexpensive drinks and laid-back environs. There’s Donkey Kong, pinball, and board games for the nostalgic, sofas around a blazing three-sided fireplace for comfort-seekers, and plenty of seating at either end of the bar for groups. Simply put, this is a great hangout place. Beware, however, of super-crowded nights, when the Boat rocks a little too much. |
