Bloomingdale Road: This lively new eatery (named after the original moniker for Broadway) opened just weeks after Aix closed and is already a popular addition to the neighborhood. The rectangular central bar has plenty of seats and makes the atmosphere festive, while the good-looking décor, with its open kitchen, slick lighting, and modern artwork, is both sophisticated and unpretentious. The underlying idea, according to a friendly bartender, was to create a cozy place where even restaurant professionals would want to hang out. As such, the menu offers inventive versions of comfort foods that are meant to be shared: the delicious Mac & Cheese, for example, has a hint of jalapeno spiciness, and the Grilled Cheese comes with wild mushrooms. Cocktails such as the Flying Monk and Dead Man’s Chest add to the playfulness for the young, spirited crowd, along with the roughly 20 beers and 20 wines by the glass. With two floors, reservations should be easy, but then again you could always roll in and hit that huge bar. Don’t be surprised if you are chatted up once you get there—Bloomingdale Road is good for making friends. Open daily 11am-11pm.
