Blaggard's Pub (38th St.): A plain green sign outside announces "Irish Pub." And those stock images that immediately crop up in your mind? Well, they're all correct. With exposed brick walls, stone and hardwood floors, seven flat screens, a jukebox, a clock in the shape of Ireland, and indigenous bartenders in black shirts, you've been here before even if you've never been here before. (You know what we mean). This place is also large, clean and well-lit, which makes it a step up from the other remaining Blaggard's'. Sure, it's not exactly a destination, but if you work or—gasp—live in this nightlife-starved area, here is your no-nonsense place to booze. There are eight beers on tap, eleven bottles, a solid happy hour ($4 Guinness, $4 Jameson shots, and half-priced wings) and, best of all, the reassurance that you won't end up at yet another Blarney Stone. |
