Black Door: Three words: darkest bar ever. Black Door is where you bring your ugly date. Squint through the shadows, though, and you’ll find neither burn victims nor sideshow freaks, just a laid-back bunch of neighborhood drinkers soothed and subdued by the darkness. Tucked away on 26th Street, it’s a nice place to avoid the usual Flatiron/Chelsea crowds. The place has a sort of otherworldly charm, like you’ve stumbled into a secret bar from the 1890s, the kind of place where you’d order a pint or a Sidecar. While the front area, dotted with small tables and a long bar, gets plenty of action, be sure to venture back to the retro-cool back room. |
