Bill's Bar & Burger: A burger place in the Meatpacking District—that makes perfect sense. So, who is Bill, you may ask. Alas, there is no Bill. For all its homey spin and working-guy façade, Bill’s Bar & Burger is a corporate creation from resto magnate Steve Hanson and his pun-tastic BR Guest restaurant group. Still, the lack of Bill might be the only disappointing thing about this simple new addition to a neighborhood overflowing with trendy excess. While the boutique bars exalt their imported upholstery and art-installation décor, “Bill” keeps it oak-paneled and black-and-white-tiled. Of course, you're here for the burgers, so you'll be glad to know they're being slung with that Hanson je ne sais quoi; top-notch toppings like New Mexico green chiles and caramelized onions will have you saying, "mmm bop." But be forewarned: This is the only place in a square mile radius with edible food for single digits, so brace your buns for a mob of value shoppers as the word spreads. Bottom line: if you think it’s time the MePa (re-)opened its arms to the proletariat, this place fits the Bill. |
