Big Bar: Whoever named this drinkery had a good sense of humor, because this rum room is many things, but spacious is not one of them. Put it this way—it’s like calling David Spade “big guy.” On the bright side, the music is low enough that patrons can hear each other, a revolutionary concept for an East Village bar. Big Bar has one beer on tap, and a casual feel that is devoid of personality. Clearly past its prime, the “Miami Vice” architecture (art deco, not neon) crossed with cabaret-style lighting sets the scene for conservative librarian conversation over single-malt Scotch. But at least the tiny size provides a good excuse for pawing your hot date. |
