Berry Park: Isn't it kind of eerie being the only person in a park? That same feeling goes for Berry Park, a rooftop bar that—despite neighboring Williamsburg's popular McCarren Park—reminds us more of a McBarren Park. You may be alarmed to hear crickets when you enter the ground floor, but keep in mind that the real destination is upstairs: a deck featuring one of your less breathtaking Manhattan views, along with a fenced perimeter that evokes a Missouri backyard. Still, with plenty of large tables scattered around the vast space, you'll find plenty of places to park your derriere and enjoy the open air. The wintertime is when the downstairs may get its due, as the warm (but spacious) interior offers all the dark wood and candlelight of nearby Radegast Hall, without all the tourists (or currently, anyone else). Prices are affordable—most beers and wells are in the $6-$8 range—and expanded offerings of both food and drink are in the works. In short, the Berry is worth a visit—as long as you bring friends to take advantage of the ample “parking” available. |
