Though it’s located practically underneath the Williamsburg Bridge, Bembe is truly a world away. The dark, sultry space reeks of incense and features live drum and bass and DJs each weekend at 10pm. Despite all this, it’s not a stoner’s paradise. The crowd skews older, international, and sophisticated here, but once the dance floor fills up, everyone loses their inhibitions—or maybe they all just gain a few mojitos.
