Beatrice Inn
If a hipster, a celebrity, and a Side Car had a child, the Beatrice Inn would be it. Nestled in the heart of the West Village, the Beatrice mixes old-world charm with West Chelsea exclusivity. Don’t believe us? Try showing up on a whim and getting through the door. If, by some chance, you get into the cozy confines, make sure to nab a seat by the building’s original fireplace for your perfect-martini sip-fest. The bartenders here not only dress classy (think suspenders and fedoras), but they make deliciously stiff cocktails for the countless “industry” socialites who mingle on mismatched couches to a soundtrack that ranges anywhere from James Brown to The Smiths. All in all, Beatrice is living proof that quiet is the new loud in New York…just don’t tell anybody.

I went to the Beatrice after a gallery opening and a couple of other bars...really dirty upstairs, but that's where the dj booth is and it's the best place to dance. the couches are crazy old and the bathroom half doesn't close, but i had a great time. the music is so all over the place you never get stuck in a rut. this place is definitely about the company you bring with you, though--it won't be fun if you're with picky people...and you definitely won't get in if you're with the wrong crowd.

I expected big things from Beatrice, but was greatly disappointed. Beatrice a no frills dumping groud of cheap musty furniture, and 18 year old UES hipsters.

I stopped by recently on a Friday - they were snotty about letting us in (and only did so, I'm sure, because one of my friends happens to be really beautiful) and then, there was no one inside! No joking, there were two or three groups in the place, and each had less than five people. I guess it's so cool it doesn't want any business.

Great place to go for a night out, but best of luck getting in--especially if you've got more than two people in your party. Make sure to try the Gin Fizz...so good.
