Barmarche: There are unexpected details at Barmarché, the self-proclaimed “downtown chic” bistro. Sure, you might expect trendy cocktail ingredients like ginger root and coffee beans lining the bar, but a raw egg? Seriously? It’s part of a new drink the bartender’s concocting for a cocktail competition (sign us up to judge, please). The décor is UES sitting room-esque with its antique crystal chandeliers, classical pilasters, and heavy curtains. Then there’s the live Brazilian music on Friday nights. It’s all so cool, so fresh, so unexpected—until you realize it’s the creation of two seasoned cool-makers: Chris Eddy, model-cum-manager of hotspots like Bond Street and Mercer Kitchen, and the improbably named mixologist and fellow Bungalow 8 alum, Clark Clark. From such arbiters of hip, one would expect nothing less. |
