Nestled into the more and more elegant crowd of dining spots along Park Avenue above Union Square is Barbounia, a Greek restaurant with a rustic elegance that almost seems casual...almost. Cream-colored drapes and low lighting frame the big space, with a glass bar on one wall to loosen things up a bit. If you need extra loosening, the house does offer a range of fruity drinks for around $10, and a ginormous wine list. Food is advertised as “modern Greek with Mediterranean influences,” and that is borne out in choices like souvlaki and saganaki. But other offerings are more recognizable (steak and chicken dishes) and, even better, prices stay mostly in the $20 range. Now we know where Paris Hilton will be finding her next Greek millionaire boyfriend.
