Bar Veloce (SoHo): Kenmare Square wine bar, take two: This third Veloce outpost is housed in familiar stomping grounds—it’s the original location, following some short-lived ventures. The long wood bar was taken out of storage and cut into small tables, and the lighting has been dimmed to make this skinny space an ideal date spot. Frederick Twomey has perfected his grapes-and-grub formula, offering a sizeable wine list (30 by the glass, 60 by the bottle), and Italian small plates such as bruschette, paninis, and antipasti. There are also several beers on tap as well as a selection of sake, grappa, and classics like sherry, bourbon, cognac and ports. A respite from Nolita’s more sceney digs, it’s a sequel worth checking out. |
