Bar Celona: Elegance has arrived to Williamsburg's south side, in the form of Bar*Celona, a stunning date-destination sprung from the rubble of a decrepit storage facility. Okay, the pun-based name is more worthy of a bad indie band—this is the 'Burg, after all—but get past that and you'll find Celona is both Spanish and fly, featuring a tranquil fireplace, low-wattage chandeliers and a slick black granite bar. The specialty cocktail menu focuses on three distinct categories: Gin and Tonics, Gatros (the spicy drinks), and Variedadas (basically, everything else). Our favorite falls in the "G y T" Department, the signature "Sea Monkey," a spritzy, salty, cucumber-apple concoction. If this all puts you in the mood for food, the tapas are exceptional, with 18 different plates to taste, from Piquillo Peppers to Paella Negra. The staff is muy amable (very nice), which may be surprising considering the ritzy environs. But it sure helps set the tone for that pivotal second date. Hey, no Spain no gain.
