Bar Artisanal: Celebrated chef and cheese chieftain Terrance Brennan (Picholine, Artisanal) has added a new destination to his dairy dynasty. Through a partnership with owners of defunct Mediterranean bistro, Trigo, he’s transformed the space into yet another outpost for his Artisanal brand. Dubbed a “barstro,” Bar Artisanal is Brennan’s take on classic Parisian bistro and charcuterie, boasting everything from Steak Tartare ($16) to Crème Brûlée ($8). The interior (by Albert Angel and Elle Kunnos) maintains an air of relaxed opulence with soaring ceilings, checkerboard-tile floors, and sleek white walls. Sidle up to the casually elegant bar area, or watch as the wood-fired oven churns out tempting pissaladières (traditional French pizzas). As you’d expect, Brennan’s trademark fromagerie is fit for discerning Francophiles. Can good French food come cheap? With entrees priced from $10-20- but of course! Open Mon-Sat 5pm-2am.
