BAMcafé: BAMcafé, with loft-like high ceilings, hardwood floors, and stately arched windows, is one of the nicer places around for a glass of wine. Predictably, it’s not the cheapest one, but the elegant atmosphere is worth a few extra bucks. Located on the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s second floor, this former ballroom space has a skinny bar at each end, a small gift shop, and tall, crisscrossing archways of glittery lights that add festive depth to an otherwise cavernous room. Sofas and easy chairs surround square tables in the middle, which is also where the eclectic “BAMcafé Live!” performances are staged every weekend night. “Live!” and prix fixe dinner-and-movie nights both provide great opportunities to visit, perfect for informal evenings of culture that won’t break the bank—or bore you to tears. |
