B Bar (aka Bowery Bar): This half-outside bar and bistro is obviously best enjoyed in warmer weather. Even well-placed space heaters can’t transform the ivy-festooned glass atrium and 4,000-square-foot, Christmas light-bedecked garden (with seating for 200 people) into a tropical paradise when it’s 30 degrees outside. Some complain that the scene has peaked, as indicated by a significant bridge-and-tunnel crowd and, in the summer months, those pesky college interns migrating from NYU Land for the smoker-friendly patio and tiny, overpriced (albeit strong) drinks. Tuesday nights bring the ever-popular Beige party, a gay soiree for pretty boys. On weekends, the revelry doesn’t get going until at least 11:30, when the dinner crowd starts to filter out, but go too late and you risk running up against bouncers who seem to think they’re working the door at Bungalow 8. |
