Aubergine Cafe: Though it's minutes from Manhattan, Sunnyside, Queens doesn’t seem like it’ll ever become a buzzed-about hotspot like Astoria or Williamsburg, and that’s just fine by the relaxed regulars nestled comfortably inside Aubergine. Who needs hipsters and hype to overrun this pleasant little discovery? A beautiful café and wine bar with exposed brick walls, hardwood floors and clusters of candlelit tables, Aubergine also has the friendliest staff anyone could ask for. They invite you to “Wine Down” on weeknights from 5 to 8pm, when you can get one of their bottles of red or white for $15. They also take serious pride in their acclaimed coffee, roasted upstate at Irving Farm and stacked on the counter—buy some to grind at home. Great brunch and dinner menus featuring soups, salads, chili, paninis and sandwiches on croissants and whole grain bread round out this neighborhood highlight. Open Mon.-Fri. 6:30am-11pm, Sat.-Sun. 8am-11pm.
