Atrium Lounge (@ the Marriott Marquis): In the heart of Times Square is its most commercial hotel, the Marriot Marquis. The hotel reaches 50 stories into the New York sky with a 37-story atrium following it almost all the way up. At the base of the atrium is the aptly named Atrium Lounge. Live music in the form of unoffending lounge singers entertain the mostly tourist crowd before they scurry off to the theater. Gaudy is the best way to describe it; the lighting is very casino-like so when those guests slip back in after the show it’s like no time was lost at all. A giant gold structure doubles as a clock tower and bottle holder for the bar. If you’re meeting some-one staying at the hotel, or staying yourself, and don’t want to deal with the hustle and bustle of finding a more worthy meeting spot, it seems harmless enough. But what fun is that? |
