Apotheke
If you've ever wanted to travel back in time to a 19th century absinthe-and-opium den, now's your chance. Cocktail artist Albert Trummer (who has worked with Bouley, among others) opened this opium den-turned-apothecary-style drinking paradise, featuring more than 250 house cocktails and more than 1,000 varieties of liquor, in time for Fashion Week. Putting a twist on the modern-day obsession with remedies, drinks are broken into categories based on how they'll cure you: healthy and beauty, stress relievers, pain killers, stimulants, pharmaceuticals, euphoric enhancers, therapeutic treatments, house remedies, and of course, aphrodesiacs. Apotheke will feature Trummer's own absinthe, based on a 200-year-old recipe. Get ready to lose your mind in Chinatown.

Yet another example of the trend-oids ruining a real neighborhood. Hopefully the Tongs and the triads will chase these posers out of Chinatown.

this place should be on the upper west side- that way all the losers wouldnt have to travel all the way downtown to go there- and the l.e.s. would have a few less wannabes running around!

It is refreshing to have an original bar like Apotheke open. The staff is friendly, the drinks are great, and the detail involved in the interior design is amazing.

This is a magical place...maybe the drinks seriously work because I could not help but act so happy every time I go here. Its my happy den. The drinks are so yummy, the absinthe is delicious, the front door guy (James) is so nice and down to earth (not to mention gorgissimo), and who's the cute little owner with the little rat tail?
If you're ever in the mood to escape the humdrum of a NY boring night, head over here with your friends, relax and have some cocktails.
I'd highly recommend it.

This place just needs to get over itself and realize that the last thing New York needs is another "underground" pretentious bar.

The cocktails are great, the ambiance has potential, but the staff, (think bitchy husslers in mini skirts) and owners, (upper east side spoiled brats trying to slum it downtown) should take note from a few long-standing NY bars and treat their customers as though they actual want them to return.

Check this place out for the great drinks before it turns into yet another suburban watering hole.

Travelling back in time?? No way!! this is just a LES hipster wannabe bar in a ridiculous location. It has nothing to do with Chinatown.
