Angels & Kings: With an opening buzz that nearly induced E! red-carpet coverage, you'd wonder how Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz can call this place a “dive bar in spirit.” But beyond the eyeliner-rocking emo ownership, Ashlee Simpson sightings, and encouraged bathroom sex (really), Angels & Kings is just another East Village bar. While weekends and events may prompt the use of velvet ropes, (what is this, LA?) in front of the dark, boxy, red-hued venue, weeknights lure in neighborhood regulars with decently-priced drinks. When the DJ booth is vacant, a neon juke sets the soundtrack of rock and alternative jams (no favorites of course!). But what really makes us kinda cringe? Framed rockstar mugshots of Axl Rose, David Crosby, and Sid Vicious. Sniff, sniff…is that poseur we smell? |
