André at Opia: Just what Midtown needs—another expensive French restaurant! That said, André, which is an adjunct to Opia at the Renaissance Hotel, is a sophisticated spot, retaining its sister restaurant’s red velvet furnishings and modern, vaguely-deco feel. It’s bright and stylish, but your dinner at André may feel a bit more “business lunch” than anything else. And, truth be told, the place isn’t even all that French, with standbys such as an Angus burger ($16) and a Cobb salad ($16) sharing space on the menu alongside fare that is only slightly more Franco-centric (Filet Mignon au poivre, $34). So, the place is as expensive as it looks; no restaurant involving a glass-walled staircase ever ends up being a bargain. They do a fine job with the food, though, so with any luck, your boss will treat you. |
