205:
What’s hipper than sitting on a $2 vintage chair drinking a can of PBR that costs twice as much? Doing it in the LES. Inside 205 Chrystie, a tin-foil-covered den known simply as 205, hipsters of all ages gather, if they’re hip enough to know about the party. But the club isn’t simply a compilation of all things boho-chic. It’s actually an Andy Warhol tribute, designed in the image of The Factory, his famous art loft. More tongue-in-cheek than cheesy, the décor includes a faux industrial elevator entrance, duct-taped banquettes, orange upholstery, and a large canvas facing backwards against a back wall frame. Sneak a peak. The painting’s front is black and white Paris Hilton portraits – a combination homage to Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe and a dig at the socialite. When the main level gets cramped, head downstairs for a second DJ spinning danceable tracks in a Craigslist personal ad-inscribed room. Read the phrases in dim and tipsy conditions; it beats stifling laughter over the site’s “Missed Connections” in your cubicle.
I had expectations the first time I went to this place and I have to say that I was deeply disappointed, the place had newly opened and I guess they were figuring out certain things, the music downstairs was too loud, drinks too expensive and too much people. I did go back though, and they got the music under control, but unfortunately the expensive drinks stayed the same, it’s nothing special about this place, it’s a hit or miss, I’ve had good times and bad times, and the only reason I’ve come back is to follow friends who wants to go. The door is a little hard, but as long as you are dressed casually sexy/chic, you know not too much, but not too little and do not stumble, you should be fine. It also helps if there are more women then men in the group you are going with. If you are not looking for something special, but enjoys a little dancing to decent music, check it out.
