Single in the City: Best Pick-Up Bars
Posted Friday, October 10, 2008  12:00:00 AM
By now, summer romances are either sizzling hotter than Lilo and Ronson or have plummeted like the stock market. But if your situation falls into the latter category, there’s no time to dwell in your sorrows. No sir-ee, you have too many happening spots to check out while getting your drink on. And just maybe, a new flame to meet and get cozy with for the fall. Now let’s turn a new leaf with a cocktail, shall we?

 Delicatessen

Double Crown
316 Bowery (@ Bleecker)
East Village 212.254.0350
Buh-bye B Bar. The place to see and be seen on the Bowery is now Double Crown. The restaurant/bar/lounge setup makes for an ideal group night out spot for dinner, drinks, and face time with the good looking crowd. It’s also the perfect place to pre-game, and with luck, make bar-hopping friends.

Brother Jimmy’s BBQ
131 Lexington Ave. (@ 31st St.)
Murray Hill 212.779.7427
Calling all those who can’t resist financers and frat-bros, there’s yet another go-to spot for these types in Murray Hill. The place gets packed with boys men who want to get their game on. Sports, that is. But surely you can become part of the play.

Delicatessen
54 Prince St. (@ Lafayette St.)
NoLita 212.226.0211
Delicatessen is for those who have graduated from the after-hours pizza joint pick-up party. With a menu full of inventive takes on comfort food like Reuben fritters and cheeseburger spring rolls, the place still satisfies drunk munchies, but the tré chic artwork and sleek design provide a bit more grown-up atmosphere to mingle flirtatiously whilst inebriated.

Chloe
81 Ludlow St. (@ Broome St.)
East Village 212.677.0067
You can’t show your face at Beatrice Inn anymore, because, well, you’ve sucked face with everyone there. Fortunately, there’s Chloe, a new hotspot under Casanis that’s equally as intimate (if not smaller) and exclusive as the Bea’, and hopefully, full of new lips to smack on.

Haven
244 E. 51st St. (2nd & 3rd Aves.)
Midtown 212.906.9066
With the snakeskin leather walls and Chinese swords scattered about, this new Midtown haunt looks like a tricked-out bachelor pad. But this is no boys' club—cocktails like the Hello Kitty, made with green tea-infused vodka and lychee, seem to be geared towards fem tastes, and they’re hosting events for the ladies like Jezebel Thursdays. A place that caters to both genders? Sounds like the perfect meeting ground to us.

Parlor Steakhouse
1600 3rd Ave. (@ 90th St.)
Upper East Side 212.423.5888
Think of husband-and-wife team Michael Glick and Susy Salvo Glick (BB&R) as the cupids you’ve always wished for. The floor plan, a spacious bar area that wraps around to a glass-enclosed café, is the perfect setup to socialize with everyone in the room. Even if “the one” isn’t there, Gardner Dunn and Ben Clemons’ (Elizabeth, Los Dados) well-crafted cocktails make the trip just as worthwhile.
