Case of the Mondays: Best Bars for Monday Night
Posted Friday, June 20, 2008  12:00:00 AM
Sick of your weekly “case of the Mondays?” Nothing ruins the start of the work-week like burnt coffee, a wrinkled shirt, and getting your fingers stuck in the paper shredder. Fret no longer—with all the parties happening around town on the normally loathed day of the week, it seems as though Monday is the new Thursday, (which by the way, is so last year). Quit your bellyaching and extend your weekend bender one night further at these anything-but-blue bars:

Best Bars for Mondays, Johnny Utah's
 Johnny Utah’s

Johnny Utah’s
25 W. 51st St. (5th & 6th Aves.)
Midtown 212.265.UTAH
Calling all quarter-life crises sufferers—head to Johnny Utah’s on Monday nights and take a ride on the bull for their Corzo/Cazadores Bull Riding contest to reign in some fun in your life. This is where young professionals come to get unbuttoned (and sometimes, undressed)—talk about a change of scenery.

Butter
415 Lafayette St. (Astor Pl. & 4th St.)
NoHo 212.253.2828
In the past, Mondays at Butter were to jet-setters what football is to the Midwest. Although rumors are swirling of an evening that is dwindling in popularity, you should still expect to see at least one familiar face. And anyways, no one should be above a D-list crowd on a Monday.

Bar Martignetti
406 Broome St. (Centre and Lafayette Sts.)
SoHo 212.680.5600
Bar Martignetti plays off the former with their weekly “I Can’t Believe it’s not Butter” Monday-night parties. Expect a mixed crowd here, where preppies come to mingle with artists and the usual SoHo scenesters. The laid-back atmosphere and lack of pretentiousness will surely make it apparent that it’s so not Butter.

Upstairs Bar
529 Broadway (@ Spring St.)
SoHo 212.431.4350
You know you’re in for a rager when you go to a place that was temporarily shut down for noise and liquor violations. And the idea of being somewhere badass—A-listers, velvet rope, and table service—on a Monday night is pretty intriguing. But goody-goodies shouldn’t overlook the joint, located upstairs from a daytime café. You’ll be able to prevent a Tuesday-morning hangover by soaking up the booze with the soon-to-be-reopened late night eatery named (what else?) Downstairs.

Sway
305 Spring St. (Greenwich & Hudson Sts.)
SoHo 212.620.5220
A fashionable, hipster-hop-loving crowd turns out for Roxy Cottontail’s banging DJ line-ups every week. True to its name, this Moroccan-themed lounge is an ideal place to move to the beat. With no cover, this party gets packed early for an open bar, so arrive before 1 a.m. or get stuck waiting behind the velvet rope.

Mantra 986
986 2nd Ave. (52nd & 53rd Sts.)
Midtown 212.813.1595
After-work house music on the Upper East Side sounds like a recipe for disaster, but somehow Mantra has made it work. This bi-level club brings out the big boy speakers every week for DJs to come in and provide some house, free of charge, for its “Sunset Mondays.” Fly out of your cubicle early for this party starting at 5 p.m., with an early open bar, drink specials, and—if you’re considering playing hooky on Tuesdays—$150 bottles of Grey Goose and Patron.

what about Crow's Nest at The Water Club - the hottest girls, great bar food and sitting on the East River watching the sunset is a winner any day of the week.
Thursdays is preppy night!
