You see it in a far corner behind almost every bar, that weird bottle of yellow booze, awkward and too tall, like some un-deployed rocket from the Cold War—and the dust atop it signifies it has been sitting there for almost that long. Now you ask yourself, and maybe the bartender, "What the f*** is Galliano?" Neither of you know. Why does this stuff even exist? Come to think of it, why do half the bottles on the top shelf exist? Well, professional (and open-minded) drinkers that we are, we're happy to help. Get ready to think outside the beer.

GALLIANO
What is it? An Italian liqueur, dating back to the late 1800s. The taste is a super sweet mix of anise and vanilla, and it's as yellow going in as it is coming out. Galliano owes what little fame it has to the briefly-popular Harvey Wallbanger, named after a klutzy surfer and popularized on cross-country TWA flights in the '70s. Seriously.
Try it in... Sure you've heard of a Harvey Wallbanger, but have you had one? It's two parts OJ to one part vodka, with the yellow stuff floated on the top. Garnish with oranges and a cherry (and get ready for that headache tomorrow).
