| Erasing the Workday: NYC's Best Happy Hours

Don’t be fooled by that A-frame sidewalk chalkboard: $2 10-oz. mugs of beer and $4 bottles of Rolling Rock aren’t a good deal no matter how colorful the signage. Bars might be able to put you through the wringer on a Saturday night, but by 5 o’clock Monday evening the ball is back in your court—so take advantage of these happy hour deals while the getting’s good.

Black Bear Lodge
274 3rd Ave. (21st & 22nd Sts.)
Gramercy 212.253.2178
Start the week off right by tainting the rest of it with a happy hour so random you’ll have to write it down just to keep it straight. Everyday ‘til 7pm this faux hunting lodge offers $3 drafts, $4 well drinks, PBR and Natty Lite cans, and $3 margaritas and Rolling Rock nips. (Did you get that?) What distinguishes this special from other hodgepodge happy hours are the $3 margaritas. If you’re going to kill your brain cells, at least do it with something tasty. |

KitchenBar
687 6th Ave. (@ 20th St.)
Park Slope 718.499.5623
This bar-restaurant proves you don’t need a Kevlar pocket to keep your wallet from taking a hit. KitchenBar’s happy hour runs every day from 4-7pm and offers $2 sangria, $3 drafts, and $4 house drinks. Booze isn’t the only thing on sale here, however: an eclectic selection of “bar bites” is also available for $3-$5. |

The Big Easy
1768 2nd Ave. (@ 92nd St.)
Upper East Side 212.348.0879
This place feels like an authentic New Orleans bar—and if you’re seeking cheap, booze-fueled mayhem reminiscent of college days past, then The Big Easy is the place to go. Wicked Wednesdays offer a whole slew of specials including $1 Bud Lite drafts and Natty Lite cans, $2 mixed drinks, and $6 monster bombs. If that’s not enough to give you the shakes, they top it off with $6 pitchers of Bud Lite to encourage gentlemanly games of beerpong. Perhaps the best thing about this generous happy hour is that it never ends (5pm-4am). |

Essex
120 Essex St. (@ Rivington St.)
Lower East Side 212.533.9616
If you’re sick of hemorrhaging cash every time you set foot on the Lower East Side, then hit up Essex Restaurant on Thursday (or Monday) for their Oystravaganza (not its actual name, but it should be). Drinks are half price from 6pm to 9pm and oysters are only $1 a piece all night long. A killer deal like this would be enough to make even your broke-ass drinking buddy cough up a few clams—er, dollars. |

Common Ground Bar & Restaurant
206 Ave. A (12th & 13th Sts.)
East Village 212.228.6231
Whether you’re a beer-drinker, cocktail snob, or just plain hungry, Common Ground has you covered. Their happy hour runs from 4pm-8pm and offers $2 Miller Light and Yuengling drafts, two-for-one appetizers and panini, and $5 cosmos and appletinis. Dirt-cheap beer is usually the hallmark of a dive bar, but the cozy decor of Common Ground is anything but neglected—as if that would have stopped you anyway. |
