| From here on out, things start to get a little fuzzy. We try a spiced rum cocktail at the Montecristo table served by Bar 44’s Somer Perez (pictured left)—Star Chef’s 2008 Rising Star Mixologist, then there are caipirinhas from Sagatiba cachaça, Camitz sparkling vodka (think Perrier, but 80-proof), and lemonade with Pearl blueberry flavored vodka and a rock candy swizzle stick. What was that saying about "never mix"? Nevermind. Lured by pretty packaging, we're compelled to try a few more sips of wine, a Malbec from Francis Coppola’s line and an oak-cask malbec from Trapiche, Argentina. At this point the only logical thing to do is stick with spirits, so we taste an intensely herbaceous Chartreuse, both yellow and green varieties, with just a little ice. The flavor is interesting and bright, but at 110-proof, a few sips are all we can handle. |
